Working at a school means the beginning of August is always hectic for me. Even though I’m not a teacher (front office admin!), the start of school requires a ton of prep both physically and emotionally.
Now that day one is done, I feel like I can get back into the swing of my school year routine. I thought I would bring back a weekly report. Feels like a progress report!
Reading- For book club this month we are reading “Shield of Sparrows” by Devney Perry. This has been such a delicious fantasy world to fall into, especially when I am cozy in bed after a long day. I can’t wait for book club next week! I also just finished “Sunrise on the Reaping” by Suzanne Collins. Counting down the days until the movie comes out.
Eating- It’s summertime in Florida, so I’m enjoying a daily clementine. Otherwise, we went to dinner to celebrate school being back at one of my go to spots, Hawkers, and I always love their jasmine fried rice. It was storming out, so it felt especially warm and filling.
Playing- I just signed up for a tennis clinic in a few weeks and I am THRILLED! One of my goals is to make movement fun. After training for a half marathon the past two falls, I’m working on retraining my brain. Working out can mean so many different things and I think I might love my tennis clinic. I was inspired by a few friends in different cities who take lessons with friends.
Obsessing- I am dying over the new Ted Lasso season. My family was hooked early on the show when it first came out. I always say I want to be Ted when I grow up. I love tv like this. I’ve cried after watching both of the new episodes.
Recommending- Find yourself a good nighttime routine. I’ve had tons of change lately (including where I sleep!!) and a steady nighttime routine has really centered me in the transition. Mine is simple but effective: skincare, early bedtime, reading before bed (no screens) and decaf peppermint tea. I genuinely look forward to it every day.
Treating- My sister made a candy salad over the 4th of July weekend and I fell in love with the “favorite day shark gummis.” I saw them at Target last weekend and grabbed them for my office as a treat for back to school week. I only have a few a day, but they really seem to do the trick.
I hope you are enjoying your August and if you are in a brutal heat wave like we are, that you are finding rest and cool air someway, somehow.
XO
Emma

Such a lovely post! I completely agree about reading before bed. We ending the day with a book instead of a screen.
